I don’t like speaking too much about major depression, health issues, and events in my life, but I feel obligated to say that they perversely prepared my writing, drafts folder, and mental state for a global pandemic. And how, as terrible as it is, I assure you, even in our weakest moments there is opportunity. Opportunity. Learning new things, figuring out how to show compassion over video chats, the chance to come together like never before and re-write our societal code one missing ICU bed, one untimely death, one missed mortgage payment, and one false political statement at a time.
Each is unacceptable, and for what? St. Peter to check our credit score on the way into consumer goods heaven? To parrot a slogan you read on Facebook? Go bake a cake. Go support a farmer. Go rake leaves. Go cry in a pillow. Be a human. Yell at me.
